A Chanel Continuum: From Heritage to the New Era

Chanel returned to the Grand Palais in Paris in late January for its Spring/Summer 2025 haute couture show – the first couture presentation there since the venue’s reopening. The runway, shaped like interlocking Cs, formed the symbol of infinity. A soft echo of continuity, just before a new presence steps into the Chanel universe. That voice? Matthieu Blazy, officially appointed as creative director in December 2024, after months of fashion-world speculation.

The collection – designed by Chanel’s creation studio – was a tribute in colour and texture. From pale pastel tweeds to sunlit satins. From stardust gowns to feathered slip dresses. One of my favourites is the flowy cape. Such a statement piece. A lot of celebrities sat front row. Yet the true stars are the petites mains of 31 rue Cambon, quietly stitching this collection together.

Blazy, who made a quiet revolution at Bottega Veneta with his intellectual yet sensual take on materials and silhouettes, and meticulous craftsmanship, will show his first collection for Chanel later this year. Chanel, meanwhile, remains dreaming in colour, in heritage, quietly preparing for what’s next.
