Introduction
Part four of the Artists in Residence series introduces the emerging artist Aaron Boot.
“The better I feel, the more the art flows.”
Aaron Boot began his artistic journey designing parade floats for the famous Zundert flower parade while studying at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. This year, he’s presented solo exhibitions at Hortus Botanicus Leiden, Nock Nock Art Fair in Amsterdam, and Arcus Pride Art in Luxembourg.

Creativity and Impermanence
“I’m happiest in my garden studio in Breda. Surrounded by nature, that setting fuels my creativity. If I’m in a good mood, the colours I use become more vibrant and organic. Music helps a lot—I’ll blast techno, alternative, or indie pop. Sometimes I can’t help but sing along.”
Growing up in his parents’ machine shop, Aaron developed a technical mindset. His work centres around impermanence, and he’s always experimenting with new techniques, like preserving real dahlias in plaster.
“Combined with wood, the flowers can last for decades, though the piece remains fragile. Sometimes, I upcycle older works into new ones, like a personal art recycling project.”
Ultimately, Aaron aims to go bigger—creating larger pieces and holding more solo shows to share his perspective on nature, time, and the fleeting moments in between.
